Scrabs

This is the third of several breedables created by luc Walmer:

The Scrab looks like a cross between a crab and scarab and makes a cricket-like noise that's not overly loud. They move in a sideways fashion adding to the crab theme.

Like all of these breedables from luc, they reach maturity at 7 days of age. At that time they will randomly "mate" and 3 days later you get an "egg". My 0 Gen Scrabs are basic, red and blue, green, blue, red, etc and the first set of eggs I got from them were a lovely teal color and two dark yellow. I hatched out the teal and one of the yellows to give me 1st Gen Scrabs and add their colors into the mix.

Like the other RBG breedables, there is no way to "mate" or "pair" a specific male or female unless you are set up to move 2 far enough away that only they mate. This will require additional food out as well as another home object.  While neither would be considered primmy, they are extra prims to have out if you are limited already.

I do find the food goes faster than I'd like, but the cost is reasonable.  A list of prices is as follows:

Scrab starter pack (medium) L$ 300 (5 eggs, 2 medium food, home device)
Scrab starter pack (full) L$ 500 (9 eggs, 2 large food, home device)
Scrab food monney (medium) L$ 100 (3 Food Monney - 84 servings each)
Scrab food monney (large) L$ 200 (3 Food Monney - 168 servings each)

These items are available in the affiliate vendor.

From the notecard with the starter pack:

About the Scrab
----------------------------------------------------------

To hatch your eggs, simply place them on the ground within range of an Scrab home, then click the egg cup and select "unpackage". Once the egg is unpackaged, click the egg and select "Hatch" this will rez your Scrab, and you can now sit back and watch it .

You should also have some food out, although he won't be hungry until 4 hours after he is born.

About the Scrab home
----------------------------------------------------------

The Home gem is what Scrabs use to judge how far they are allowed to roam from. To configure the distance, change the description of the home gem . The home planet is modifiable, but it is not recommended to change it's size greater than 1-2 meters in height (Scrabs can't fly.)

Clicking the scrab home will update all Scrabs in range with a new home position. You need to click the Scrab home everytime you hatch an egg or unbox an Scrab.

The Scrab home covers a square area of land, allowing for traditional cages, the distance is calculated by using a maximum y and maximum x coordinate, this means that when a scrab is in the corner of its roam distance, it will be further than the allowed distance from the scrab home .

An easy way to determine what your home distance should be, is to rez a large square covering the area you want, then divide the width by 2. So a 10x10 meter pen would require a distance of 5 in the home object. The home object should be placed in the center (on the ground).

 -------------------------------------------
 IMPORTANT :

Scrabs reach maturity at age 7, when they will start mating and producing eggs. In order to breed new Scrabs, you will require an adult male and an adult female, males will be ready to mate every 3 hours, and once a female is pregnant she will be ready to lay her seed after 3 days.

Live Scrabs and eggss must never be taken into your inventory. Doing so will break them, so in order to take them into your inventory, you should use Scrab box for Scrabs and egg Cups for eggs. These products are available free at the main store.

Scrabs seeds have an extra use . You can feed Fenrock with them.
Every eggs have 12 servings. To feed your Fenrock with them , all you have to do is to put them near your Fenrocks with egg cups or directly by moving them (don't forget that you can't take them directly in your inventory) . Fenrocks will eat them . When servings reach 0 , the eggs will dissepear.

It is important to note that at luc's store you can get a Bubbie HUD. When you buy items from his vendors (not affiliate vendors) you collect points which you can check using the HUD. He has several items for his breedables you can get for free using your points.

The Bubbies, also by luc and the subject of my first blog, will randomly drop food monney, worth 3 servings each, that the Scrabs can eat.  This is the best feature I find of luc's breedables; the interaction. Unless you have an army of Bubbies though, you won't get enough food monney from them to actually sustain your Scrabs, but it is an interesting side feature I haven't seen in other breedables to date.

The menu is very simple to use:

Sound, Sleep, Nothing, Name, Package are the only options.

Sound will toggle the sound off or on. Sleep puts them to sleep, or wakes them up which is essential after activating via the home object.  I toggled sleep to take the photos but it didn't seem to work so it took me a while to take the pictures I needed. Annoying, especially if you are adding new Scrabs to your pack since they all have to be near the home object when you touch it to activate the new ones.  If they are far away they may end up setting a home point that is outside the range of the food which should always be rezzed near the home object.

Nothing closes the menu. Name allows you to rename your Scrab using the format "name, Steve" without the quotation marks.  Package allows you to crate your live Scrab so you can take it into inventory or sell it safely. Just picking up any of these RBG breedables will cause them to break so be warned.

After my last post I was asked what the script time was for these breedables so I will put the three I have reviewed here so far.  These are the highest script time dilations I found in checking my estate tool:

Fenrock - 0.016
Scrab - 0.014
Bubbie - 0.013

As you can see, they have a very quick script time and will cause negligible server side lag.

I give this breedable 3 out of 5 stars as it's RBG based, doesn't allow for bonding (I'd have to completely separate a male and a female from the rest) and it doesn't show who the parents of the egg are. The upside is the interaction with luc's other breedables.

To see Scrabs you can go to luc's location: Bubbie World Shop
or at my Neverland Breedables Ranch
